A password-protected directory is a folder that can't be accessed unless the proper login credentials are supplied. This could be an entire website or only a single page that is situated in a subfolder. If you try to open such a directory, you'll see an Internet browser pop-up in which you will need to input a username and also a password. If you input the right ones, you can continue browsing the content without the need to do anything more. When the login details are not right, however, you'll see a note that you are not allowed to view the content. If this option is activated, you won't be able to open a file even though you may have a direct link. The option is incredibly practical if you want to prohibit the access to some content or if you are creating an Internet site and you don't want visitors to be able to access it before it is ready.
Password Protected Directories in Web Hosting
With the password protection tool provided with every web hosting package that we offer, you will be able to secure any content which you have within your account with only a few mouse clicks. As the tool is a component of our revolutionary Hepsia Control Panel, it has the same uncomplicated interface and you shall not need any special skills to use it. As soon as you visit the Password Protection section, you will have to select one of the domains or subdomains which you have inside the account and then choose whether the protection should be activated for the primary folder or for a subfolder. Then enter the username and the password that you'd like and you will be set. A tiny padlock symbol within the File Manager section will tell you that a particular folder is password-protected. In the exact same way you will be able to add many usernames and passwords for the same folder if you'd like several people to have their own login credentials.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to protect any content that you have uploaded through our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it's part of, so you will not need to write any code at any time. You will only need to choose one of the domains/subdomains that you have inside the website hosting account and to select which folder needs to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You can then type in the username and the password, that'll be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be good to go. The protection will be switched on at once, so anybody who attempts to access the newly protected folder shall have to type in the correct login info. If a number of people have to be able to access precisely the same content, you could set up a separate username for each.
